Visiting Author

Image result for the mines afireYesterday we had a visiting author, the author was Thelma Eakin. Thelma Eakin wrote the book the mines afire with Susan Battye. The mines afire is about the Brunner mine disaster that occurred on the 26th of march 1896. Thelma came in and told us all about when she wrote the book and where she got the information from. We also could ask her questions about the book, she told us that the old drum from the Brunner band was found at Greymouth High School a few years ago.

Brunner Mine Site

On Monday we went out to the Brunner Mine site. The ladies from Shantytown went out with us. We learnt about the mine and when it happened and how many people died. There were 65 people who died on the 26th of March 1896. We also dressed up and did role plays and got a photo. We walked around the track and looked at the old coke ovens and we saw where the old entrance was. Here and some photos.

Music

We had to pick our favourite song and explain why it is our favourite. Like for example does it have a good beat or a good rhythm. This is my work.

We were then in the final against St Pats which we lost by 10 runs and I went out for a golden duck.
